The more highly visible the LGBT community becomes, the more questions arise which are still not widely taken up in cinema : homosexual marriage, disability in the LGBT community, parenting, the problems tied to adolescence or again, the questioning of gender …
Not only do we need to see these subjects treated by directors from other countries, but these films are a mirror : a mirror of our society, its difficulties and how it is changng in our times.
We have 25 films from all over the world, features, shorts and documentaries are screened during seven days in five cinemas which are our partners in this event : Utopia Toulouse, the ABC Cinema, the Cinémathèque of Toulouse, the Goethe Institute and the Cervantes Institute.
The majority of these films have never been seen before in Toulouse! The novelty and variety of the programming is an important element in our approach. Whether it be the film’s format, its nationality, its cinematic genre or subject, we want to attract a wide public and to arrouse its interest.
Of course the films chosen have lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans themes; but our objective is to make this festival an event open to Toulouse and to the world. So from the 6th – 12th February 2012, the festival will explore these different themes, in the presence of directors, actors, and debates led by other associations.
In this fifth year of the festival, there are 9 feature-length films in competition for a prize awarded by a Jury of cinema professionals. And not forgetting the public, who with their vote will choose the festival ‘favourite’ which also gets a prize on the closing night 12th February.
And we are delighted to say that the festival carries on from 13th-24th February in the Midi-Pyrénées region thanks to the participation of 11 cinemas.
The festival period is also a time of conviviality! So in conjunction with screenings there will be evenings during which invited speakers, volunteers and spectators will be able to prolong the evening in discussion.
We would like to thank our parteners very warmly, and the 2700 spectators who responded last year to our invitation, that is – to crossover together « from images to words ».
